Fiscal

"The cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and states of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on ... If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we'd see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies."

- Barack Obama, Speech in the U.S. Senate, March 13, 2006

The largest concern on fiscal policy in my experience is the unchecked ability of our government to decide our areas of investment.

In particular it could be possible for the tax system to adopt an option for each and every american that could guide govt decisions.

An initial suggestion for this option would be that every american be allowed to choose allocation for 50% of their tax contributions.

Individuals would simply check the yes I want to guide my tax spending as follows.

And then enter a percentage for each of the available categories.

I believe this would create a balanced population input option that would most likely strengthen education, healthcare and allow americans to track which govt policy makers and aspects they believe represent their ideals in actual spending rather than purported promises.

Get rid of all the subsidies to large corporations and get out of Iraq. The budget will practically balance itself.
