Now, you can have a voice in drafting the Democratic Party Platform. From now until July 27th this Blog will serve as a Virtual Community Platform Meeting for Tampa Bay O-Train members. We recommend that you take a few minutes to read Obama's postion on your issue of interest and then post your comment. A summary of comments will be forwarded for consideration of submission to the 2008 National Democratic Platform Committee.

I would like to know what Senitor Obamas will do about our dependents form all fossil fules when elected President.
My thoughts are that we should turn our engery from fossil fuels into clean green and earth friendly. I would like to see a big push on the use of Hydragen fule in our automobiles, trucks, buses and trains and airplanes. Why not? The tecnology is here. We need our goverment to make the first step. The U.S. has always been the front runner in tecnology. The big oil companys could be called "Energy" companys. Like "Shell Energy Co." or "BP Energy Co.". They don't have go out of bussiness. Just invest in other resoures.
Solar and wind is our only clean air hope to save our Planet.
As when the transister replaced gas tubes. Solar panels could be very small and afficent. Prehaps we'll only need one panel the size of a home satilite dish to power our homes and business'. Which was unthinkable 20 or 30 years ago.
These are some of my thougts for Mr. Obama
Terry, you have missed one essential element I would like to see listed on the opening page.
Government Transparency/Citizen Communications
"...Obama unveiled his plan to make the federal government more transparent, including national broadband town hall meetings -- he's calling them "21st Century Fireside Chats" -- that he says his Cabinet will hold with the American people."
It is essential as our media has ballooned to overwhelming dillution of broadcasts that a direct line of communication to the american people, through online web videos be established.
I find our fellow americans, myself included, far from ideal on knowing the positions of our own government, the leaders assigned to those positions and any chance to be updated on their decisions and operations.
This lack of conveinent knowledge has not been solved in modern america.
I can research all of the members of a football team, and judge their ability to perform, yet americans tend to only know the president or in this parallel "Quaterback" of our own government.
I can also tune into espn and get a briefing on each sports league, but no such concise rundown of our government is provided.
This transparency represents a fundamental human need of every citizen to access knowledge.
Several of these conveinent solutions to including generally and easily available knowledge to the public would insure more common ground amoung americans and our ability to communicate to resolve issues that do not represent the will of the people.
True Energy Independence - Using Clean Resources
Barack Obama and the Democratic Party should come out strongly for this, and a good starting point would be to adopt Al Gore's objectives for electricity generation from clean sources. This would be a strong contrast to the Repulican's "drug pusher" mentality of continued oil dependence.
We need to return to a Constitutional Governance. We need to observe especially the Bill of Rights.
Our government has left the Constitution behind, in the name of security.
This has been a grave mistake.

As I posted on the "Ethics" section, I'd like more attention focused on the integrity of our electoral process.
Hey Terry,
There are two issues I'd like to see more strongly addressed by the campaign.
First, the so-called Urban Agenda. What help is Obama proposing to cities that will help target reduction of teen pregnancies, increase early childhood education, promoting vocational job-training for non-college bound kids and dropouts, and encouraging more inner-city investment? These items are talked about in "The Audacity of Hope", so it would be interesting to hear specifics.
Secondly, what is the long-term plan for Afghanistan? How will we encourage the weak central government -- given the expanse and lawlessness of many of the regions -- to take a bigger role in providing basic services to all of it's citizens? And what will (can) be done about government corruption, both in Afghanistan and Pakistan, whose militaries are routinely seen as being on the take?
I believe what would help this country the most is a return to our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Freedom is not risk free, if we want to be truly free we will have to take the risks involved with freedom. There is no guarantee to safety or security, but if we hang on to the rights given us by our founding fathers, then we have an opportunity to be the strong and powerful country we once were. People are more willing to fight and protect a country that allow their citizens a full voice in how their government is run. With new technology today, there is no logical reason why our government should be conducting business behind close doors. Freedom means that our government must take the same risks that its citizens must take.
Return to the goals of a free society irregardless of the risk to you politically. Someone has to pick up where Thomas Paine left off. Freedom reguires truth and intense risks.
In addition to the issues listed, we need a foreign policy that is not isolationist. We must talk to our allies and engage with those we dislike. The failure to talk at any level has undermined any influence we may have on global events.
There are so many things that need to be fixed. My top four in order of importance are:
1) Plan to exit Iraq
2) Plan for universal health care
3) An energy policy to reduce dependence on foreign oil, increase incentives for alternative energy vehicles, and increase access to clean energy
4) Reverse isolationist do-it-alone foreign policy
I agree with Rene Chamberlain. This administration has ignored the Constitution over and over again, aided and abetted by Congress. There is absolutely no accountability in the present government, and no respect for the rule of law. I was deeply disappointed and incensed by Senator Obama's votes regarding the FISA and telecom industry bill. If nothing else, the past seven years have been a compilation of actions that are illegal according to our Constitution, international law, and probably more treaties than I am aware of. This country is screaming out for change, and the change must start with a government that is responsible, accountable to the actual populace of this country, and actually follows laws. I don't think anything else of significance can be accomplished until this happens.
Ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) needs to be a top Democratic priority. Written in 1923, the Amendment states, "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex." It's been 85 years, and the ERA is still not part of our Constitution. This means that women are not guaranteed Constitutional equality in a strict constructionist sense. Let's change this by reviving the ERA this year in Denver.
I need the statements Obama made re the faith based non profits org that Bush started and how he was going to expand the program in recent weeks he spoke on this issue, any one with that statement?
Thanks
